Chad makes me laugh

Last Sunday, my mom, Gramma, Chad, the baby and I were all rushing out the door so we could make our way to the train. Chad went on ahead a different, shorter way to purchase tickets while all the girls went the stroller-friendly, longer way.

We got to the station just in time and Chad ran up behind us. I had thought he would have been there waiting for us. He then told us how he had realized how much time he had given us and that he thought he should run home to get me a bottle of water. While he was there he decided he should change his tie. After changing his tie he decided he had better shave as well. All while we are speed walking to the station. (It is usually a seven minute walk for me.) He is awesome.

Ever after

The last few days have definitely had their ups and downs. I have felt like I will not see a day that I feel well rested again. I have felt like I will not ever have a moment where I am not preoccupied with what comes next in taking care of our little girl. It has felt like Chad and I are going to coexist right along side each other and never be able to feel close and like a couple again. The downs feel like they will last forever.

But the ups are walking in to see the cutest little girl in the world and knowing she belongs to us. We get to see her grow and change. We get to have a family. I could not have imagined that starting our family would be so taxing but I also could not have imagined it being so joyous. The hard part right now is remembering that the lows—when things are overwhelming and it feels like Chad and I will never be able to be close agian and we’ll never have a moment for ourselves again—aren’t what lasts forever. Lucky for us the high moments do. It may not feel like a high all the time—or most of the time—but the really rewarding wonderful things are the ones we get to take with us and treasure for the rest of our lives and ever after that.

Addition

Chad and I have had a lot of great time together these last few days. We have been trying to take as much advantage as possible of the simplicity of our life together as a couple before the laws of Mathematics crumble. Whoever knew one plus one does not always equal two? We went and saw a couple of over-priced movies, went on walks, played games, went to the pool, stayed up too late, slept in, worked on projects together and are trying to keep enjoying these last few days we have together as just Chad and Elisa.

I have never been happier. I cannot wait until one plus one equals three. Saturday night I had some preliminary contractions. It hurt. I couldn’t sleep. I got to call my mom at 3 am to have her confirm what was happening. Lucky me, she is in a different time zone. It was scary to think that within a few hours we might have our daughter here. I was glad that it was just a trial run to help us prepare emotionally. And I know that contractions usually start in the middle of the night, but I didn’t really imagine I would still be that tired when they started. 🙂 Chad and I are both so excited that things are gearing up and we are that much closer to having our little girl.
