Girls Night Out – August

So after a crazy fun day of swimming and paddling around with everybody Alyssa, Rachel, Natalie and I drove way over to Erin Jackson’s for a very fun evening with the ladies. We had great snack food and attempted to watch Pride and Prejudice (but we were having so much fun chatting that I do not think we saw more than 5 minutes of the movie collectively). We had a spa night; which you can imagine was pretty scary to see. But wait–imagine no longer, we took pictures to show the hard work it takes nowadays to be a passable pretty gal. Rachel and I got a ride back to the Zurich HB very late and had to take one of the night trains. Never take a night train unless your life depends on it.

Zug Paddleboats

On Saturday we had to take advantage of the great weather so we headed down with the Mascaro family to Zug. We met up with the Barlow family and a new family to join the “We’re such cool Americans that we have moved to Switzerland” group. We went down to old town Zug, which is beautiful and then we all went out for a little paddling and swimming on the lake. The water was great! I really do prefer lake water to pools. I think so too because the water was perfect. We ate some brats and some really good ice cream, saw a bit of a beach volleyball tournament and set off. Actually there were lots of kids with us, so it took 90 minutes to set off, but we went as quickly as possible.

Swiss National Day

Yesterday was Swiss Independence Day. Chad had the day off and we had a blast! We had a nice lazy morning and then spent most of the day at Atzmännig with the Mascaros and one of the missionaries’ brothers who is in town for work. The park had a bunch of really fun slides as well as a 700 meter long giant tobaggon run. We all got to take a chair lift up to the top of the slide and every thing was perfect. There were tons of other fun things to do and we especially liked the Aquatic Jet! It was a beautiful place and was great fun for all of us.

We have been reading the last Harry Potter book together and spent a big chunk of time yesterday anxiously reading as we get closer and closer to the end. It has been a lot of fun to read together–though with all the out loud reading we’ll both be hoarse in no time at all.

Finally, yesterday evening we were invited to celebrate the holiday with the Rothmunds–a family we go to church with. The missionaries were there as well. The family made an excellent meal. We had fun trying to get back into practicing our German. At the end of the evening we got to watch everyone lighting off great big fireworks. It was so fun to be included in their celebrations.
