Christmas Toys

It was a lot of fun to have my parents in town for Christmas. They were so nice to drive up to Seattle. We saw Jeff and Sarah briefly and we’ll find some time to visit them in Anacortes we hope.

On Christmas Day we talked to Jason on the phone. My mom took pages of notes. 🙂 He was fun to talk to.

Chad and I made out like bandits. This is the best Christmas ever. Elisa and I got some trees from her family. We’re going to plant them now so that they will have time to grow big and look good by the time we get back. And I got a chop saw to play with. We got really good toys all around. Elisa and I got a new camera that we already have a bunch of fun with. Chad was able to surprise me and get us our wedding album. I got a little mini-version until the real one comes and can’t quit looking at it. Elisa also got the set of Harry Potter books–which she thought was going to be the album. When she opened it up and there was no album, she tried to look happy and say that they were just the books that she wanted. I was going to leave the album until last but I couldn’t bear to see her so disappointed and trying to have fun. Hopefully every time I see that look in her eyes I always have the right present still in store. 🙂

I also got a bow tie that I wore to church today. Since Elisa and I are almost ready to move away, Elisa got released from being Primary chorister today. When they told the kids, Terrence, said, “Who’s Sister Parry?” Elisa said it was her and he said, “Oh, man!”

My big news is that I’m broken. Elisa isn’t 23 anymore. She has been feeling sick the last couple weeks, and to some extent for the last couple months. We finally got her to a doctor and hopefully soon they’ll tell us what to do so she doesn’t get headaches and a sick stomach. But meanwhile they just told me all the things that would be the worst case scenario. So now I’m more worked up than before.

Brrrrrrrrr

Elisa and I had to go without power for a day. The house is heated by a gas furnace but it doesn’t work unless the fan gets electricity. It got cold! I had six shirts on and was rolled up in bed with six blankets and I was still cold! There are hundreds of thousands of people in the area that haven’t gotten their power back yet. A windstorm caused it all. Trees fell on power lines in a lot of neighborhoods. We visited a ward member this afternoon whose street was blocked off from an enormous tree that had pulled down a power pole. The cords were still draped across cars and houses running down the street. It’s been three days since the storm but there was so much damage that work crews haven’t been able to get everywhere yet.

There was no work going on at Microsoft on Friday. They don’t know how to run a software company without electricity. I didn’t have any ideas myself so I just came home. 🙂 Elisa and I finished a bunch of home repairs this weekend. We celebrated getting to the end of our “Have TODO” list.

Elisa and I danced until we dropped last night. It was my company’s Christmas party. If you imagine a Microsoft company party then you’ll be able to guess how many people were on the dance floor. (Answer: me and my beautiful partner). I had so much fun dancing that I woke up this morning thinking I had just dreamed it. That sounds really cheesy but I just love to dance and Chad is such a blast.

Well, also we were still on vacation when we last wrote. We stayed with Jordy and Chris for Sunday through Tuesday. Jordy made the most incredible fried chicken dinner for us. My mouth waters just thinking about it. Jordy took us to the San Diego Zoo and Sea World. It was really amazing to see the acrobatics of the dolphins. I especially liked walking through the underwater tunnel surrounded by sharks. We played cards with her and Chris. Chris ended up having to work a couple shifts while we were there.

Happy Birthday Elisa

We didn’t do an entry on Elisa’s birthday because we were so busy in Zurich. Now that we’re back it’s time to celebrate.

Elisa sometimes gets shafted on her birthday. That’s what happened this year. She was so jet lagged on her birthday. And she had caught me trying to sneak her birthday present out the door, so she knew what she was getting! Poor girl with ruined surprises.

Elisa had been asking for a white coin purse for awhile. I found a nice one online and it came in time for her birthday. I was so excited until I actually opened the box. It was about twice as big as it had looked in the picture. Instead of being a convenient coin purse it was more like a miniature handbag. It certainly wouldn’t fit in a pocket, which was the whole point. So that idea got deep-sixed. That left her with one present for her birthday. Her whole day really got overshadowed by other things going on. 🙁

Fortunately Elisa is a good sport! As I keep telling her, she is perfect for me. Elisa deserves to be treated like a queen all the time, not just on her birthday. I hope we can make it up to her during Christmas season. Happy, Happy Birthday Elisa Parry!
